ABSTRACT
This research paper analyses the environmental and economic viability of deploying green hydrogen energy for sustainable development in the Nigerian energy sector. This investigation specifically considers the potential for green hydrogen produced through water electrolysis with renewable energy sources. This paper explores the feasibility of green hydrogen as a potential solution to the current problems of unsustainable energy from fossil fuels and an unreliable power grid. The environmental effects of adopting green hydrogen as an energy source for sustainable energy in Nigeria were explored. A life cycle assessment (LCA) was conducted to understand the environmental impacts of green hydrogen energy. The environmental impacts of operating a green hydrogen power plant were compared to those of operating a conventional thermal power plant. The study found that the environmental impact of the green hydrogen power plant is way less than that of the conventional power plant. The paper also explored the economic feasibility of green hydrogen energy. A life cycle costing analysis (LCCA) study was conducted, and the study found that although current green hydrogen energy costs are high, future improvements to green hydrogen technology will lower the price of green hydrogen energy.
